Bissap is a young female Patas monkey (Erythrocebus patas) who was found chained by the roadside, likely intended for sale as a pet or bushmeat. Her family was probably killed before her eyes. After her rescue, Bissap was entrusted to Akatia. When she arrived, she was very frightened and underweight, making it challenging to rebuild her trust in humans and start her rehabilitation. Even now, although she ventures into the bush daily, she remains very shy and discreet, always keeping a certain distance.
